Living on Saturday - the day of waiting

Was based on Mark 15:42-47 Burial

There is a sense in which our lives are lived on the Saturday, waiting the final consummation of the Rule of God: we wait, our final resurrection is sure, our victory is certain, yet life can at times reflect the tomb:" You have thrown me into the lowest pit, into the darkest depths" (Ps 88:6).

So we pray: "Kyrie eleison" (Lord have mercy).

Saturday—the day-in-between, the day between earth and heaven, hurt and healing, waiting and receiving, faith and sight. It’s Saturday, but Sunday’s coming . . .

Today Hades cries out groaning:

“I should not have accepted the Man born of Mary.

“He came and destroyed my power.

“He shattered the gates of brass.

“As God, He raised the souls I had held captive.”

Glory to Thy cross and resurrection, O Lord!

(Vesperal Liturgy of Holy Saturday)
